One of the things we reflect on in this Lenten season and every time we go through the Lenten journey is the agony in the garden. It's the first sorrowful mystery of the rosary when Jesus goes into Gethsemane to pray. This is right before he's arrested and crucified, betrayed by his friend, Judas, with a kiss.

Now it's showing the full humanity of Jesus. And as Catholics, we believe in the hypostatic union. Yes. Jesus is fully God, but he's fully man. He has our emotions, our fears.

He knows what's coming. He's about to suffer and die an agonizing death on the cross. He's very much terrified. He asks god, father, if you can, take away this cup from me. That cup is all the pain he's about to go through.

We can relate. Right? Haven't we all felt overwhelmed and asked god to take away something that was hard? But Jesus doesn't stop there. He says, not my will, but yours be done.

Even though he's terrified, he trusts god completely and says yes to the plan to save humanity, demonstrating true sacrificial love. We can relate to the struggle in our own lives. Right? In those moments we feel alone when our friends are not there to support us, or we face something we don't want to. Jesus has been there.

So when we reflect on the agony in the garden, whether it's during the rosary or or just from time to time, it's a chance for us to think about our own hard times. How did we handle it? Maybe we're worried about a family problem, a big decision, an issue at work. Jesus shows us that we can bring those fears to God, be honest about them, and then trust him to get us through it. He didn't run away Even when his friends fell asleep and left him alone, he demonstrated fortitude.

So the story of the agony in the garden isn't just about the suffering of Jesus. It's about his strength, his courage, how he gives us an example that no matter what, to trust and depend on God. This image of Jesus in the garden reminds us we're never alone regardless of our feelings, and the will of God, even when it's tough, is always what's best for us.
